Heritage Scholarships

Supporting the Next Generation of Tai Chi & Qigong Instructors

Application Status:  Currently open for submissions

Closing Date:  Sunday, June 25 @ 11:59 PM

The Heritage Scholarships were established to support individuals pursuing instructor training in Tai Chi and Qigong through My Metro Medicine.

These scholarships are designed for applicants who demonstrate commitment to personal growth, service, and the preservation of traditional healing arts. We are not seeking the most experienced practitioners. We are seeking individuals who are willing to learn, participate, and contribute to their communities through these practices.

Two scholarship opportunities are available for the Beginner/Intermediate Tai Chi & Qigong Instructor Training Program:

Imperial Jade Scholarship
(50% Tuition Scholarship)

The Imperial Jade Scholarship is our premier award, granted to the applicant who demonstrates an expansive external vision for the growth of these healing traditions. This scholarship focuses on a larger scope of community leadership and brand stewardship; the recipient acts as an ambassador, preparing to carry the mission of My Metro Medicine out of the classroom and into the world by bringing the benefits of Tai Chi and QiGong to new populations (such as clinical settings, senior care, or wellness centers).

Cinnabar Seal Scholarship
(25% Tuition Scholarship)

The Cinnabar Seal Scholarship is our merit-based award, explicitly noted as focusing on the rigorous technical cultivation, dedication, and personal discipline required of a practitioner transitioning into a teacher. Named after the traditional ink of authenticity and the scholar’s seal, this scholarship recognizes the profound internal work, precision, and consistency needed to master the mechanics of the curriculum and earn the official mark of a fully-trained instructor within the My Metro Medicine program and family.

What We Look For

Successful applicants typically demonstrate:

  • Passion for personal growth and wellness
  • Interest in helping, teaching, or serving others

  • A sincere desire to continue the traditions of Tai Chi and Qigong

Prior teaching experience is not required.

Application Requirements

The scholarship application includes several components designed to help us better understand your background, goals, communication style, and readiness for instructor development.

Video Submission Requirement

All applicants must submit one video as part of the scholarship application. You may choose either option below.

Option 1: Personal Reflection Video

Required Length: 5–10 Minutes

In a single video recording, discuss:
  • Why you want to become a Tai Chi and/or Qigong instructor
  • How you would introduce these practices to someone completely new
  • Your understanding of how Tai Chi and Qigong support physical, mental, and energetic well-being
  • A brief demonstration of how you would explain or guide a simple concept or movement

What We Are Evaluating
  • Communication skills
  • Presence and authenticity
  • Understanding of foundational principles
  • Alignment with the mission of My Metro Medicine
  • Instructor potential
Option 2: Instructional Demonstration Video

Required Length: 3–5 Minutes

Record yourself teaching a short Tai Chi, Qigong, or mindful movement exercise.

Your video should:
  • Demonstrate a simple posture, movement, or sequence
  • Include verbal instruction throughout
  • Focus on beginner-friendly guidance
  • Emphasize posture, breathing, relaxation, alignment, and awareness

What We Are Evaluating
  • Clear communication
  • Calm and professional presence
  • Movement awareness
  • Teaching ability
  • Readiness for instructor development

Video Submission Guidelines

For all video submissions:

  • Record in real time
  • No scripts
  • No editing or cuts
  • No AI-generated narration
  • Clear audio and video quality are encouraged
  • Prior teaching experience is not required

We are evaluating your potential, not perfection.
